Manchester Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Manchester Terrier.
A Manchester of 7 to 8 kg (15 to 18 lb) usually needs around 100 to 140 g of a typical dry food a day, roughly 1 to 1.5 cups, split into two meals. These lean, muscular dogs look best with a hint of rib and a clear tuck-up. On such a smooth, fine coat, weight gain shows early, which makes body checks easy.
Unlike many terriers, a fair number of Manchesters are picky or irregular eaters, especially when excited or unsettled. An occasional skipped meal in an otherwise bright dog is not unusual; repeated refusal of food, or refusal together with low energy, is a reason to call the vet.
Their fine muzzles suit a medium, shallow bowl. In cold weather they burn more energy staying warm, so some need a little extra food in winter if they spend long periods outdoors.
