Training a Manchester Terrier: what works and what to expect
How the Manchester Terrier learns, common training challenges and what motivates it.
Manchesters are among the more trainable terriers: quick, attentive and motivated by food and play. They lose interest with dull repetition, so keep sessions short and lively. Trick training suits them particularly well, and many learn a new trick in a single evening.
Sensitivity is the key to handling them, as harsh methods produce an anxious or stubborn dog. The usual challenges are house training in cold weather, chasing small animals and alert barking. Build a strong recall early, but keep a lead on near roads and wildlife, because a fleeing squirrel can override everything you have taught.
