A practical grooming routine for the Neapolitan Mastiff: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The short coat needs only a weekly rub with a rubber curry brush, a little more often during spring shedding. Baths every six to eight weeks are plenty, though the job is physically demanding and many owners use a walk-in shower or a groomer with a large tub.
The skin folds are the main task. Wipe the facial wrinkles and lip folds daily with a soft, damp cloth and dry them well, as trapped moisture and food can cause irritation. Check the eyes daily, because loose lids let debris in. Trim nails every few weeks; long nails on a dog this heavy affect posture and joint comfort.
