Old English Sheepdog feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Old English Sheepdog.
A 35 kg adult with moderate exercise typically needs 1,400 to 1,700 kcal a day, around 380 to 450 g of a typical dry food (roughly 4 to 4.5 cups). Because the coat hides body shape, feel for ribs and the waist with your hands every couple of weeks, as weight gain can go unnoticed for months.
The facial hair collects food and water. A wide bowl with sides deep enough to hold kibble, placed on a washable mat, reduces mess. Wipe the beard after meals to prevent staining and smell, and keep a towel near the water bowl.
Split food into two meals and avoid hard exercise straight after eating, a sensible habit for any large, deep-chested dog.
