Old English Sheepdog grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Old English Sheepdog: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Expect three to four hours a week for a full coat. Line brushing, where you part the coat in sections and brush from the skin outward, prevents mats forming close to the skin. Pay particular attention to the armpits, behind the ears, under the collar and the back legs. Bathing every four to six weeks helps, but dry thoroughly to prevent mats and skin problems.
Many pet owners choose a shorter clip every six to eight weeks. Keep hair trimmed around the eyes for clear sight, around the rear for hygiene and between the pads. Check ears weekly, as hair and moisture can lead to problems, and trim nails every three to four weeks.
