Puppies grow steadily and reach adult height at about 12 months, then keep filling out and growing coat until 2 to 3 years. The coat changes a lot in the first year: the soft puppy coat mats very quickly during the switch to adult hair, usually somewhere between 8 and 14 months, and brushing time roughly doubles during that stretch.
Keep growing puppies lean and let them play freely on soft ground rather than doing long, repetitive runs. The growth months are also the window for careful socialization with new people, dogs, places and handling, all introduced calmly and positively. A young PON that limps, runs with both back legs moving together like a rabbit, or seems stiff after rest should be seen by a vet.
