Polish Lowland Sheepdog feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Polish Lowland Sheepdog.
PONs come from working stock kept on modest rations, and many put on weight easily. An adult of about 18 kg (40 lb) usually needs 230 to 300 g of a typical dry food a day, about 2.5 to 3 cups, depending on activity. The thick coat hides fat, so check body condition with your hands rather than your eyes: you should feel ribs without pressing hard and a clear tuck behind them.
Two meals a day suit most adults. The long beard and moustache soak up water and food, so plan on wiping the face after meals, or teach the dog to stand still for a quick towel. A straight-sided bowl slightly narrower than the head keeps the face hair drier than a wide shallow dish. If your dog seems to drink much more than usual for several days in a row, mention it to your vet.
