How much exercise does a Redbone Coonhound need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Redbone Coonhound enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Adults need around 60 to 90 minutes of activity daily. Long sniffing walks on a lead or long line, trailing games, hiking and jogging suit them well. Many enjoy scent work classes, mantrailing or organized coonhound events. A Redbone that gets to use its nose every day is far calmer at home.
Off-lead exercise in open country is risky, because a Redbone on a fresh scent may ignore everything and travel for miles. Choose secure fields or use a 10 m (33 ft) long line. Howling, digging and escape attempts point to under-exercise. The short coat handles warmth better than many breeds, but still stop and rest in shade if panting becomes loud and frantic.
