Ridgeback puppies grow quickly and unevenly. Males commonly weigh 20 to 25 kg by 6 months and reach most of their height by about 12 months, then keep adding muscle and chest depth until around 2 years. Expect awkward months when the hindquarters sit higher than the shoulders.
Use a large-breed puppy food and keep your puppy slim. Avoid forced running, long hikes and hard landings from jumps until growth plates close at around 14 to 18 months. The teenage stretch, roughly 8 to 18 months, is when selective hearing and boundary testing peak, so tighten management rather than loosening it.
