How much exercise does a Schipperke need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Schipperke enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Schipperkes need about 45 to 60 minutes of activity a day, split into walks and play. Variety matters more than distance: nose games, trick sessions, short agility courses and exploring new routes on a lead all suit them. Many shine in barn hunt, a sport where dogs search straw bales for rats kept safely in protective tubes.
An under-occupied Schipperke finds its own work, usually barking at the window or excavating the flower beds. Over-exercise is less common, but short legs mean long hill walks should be built up gradually. Keep them on a lead or in a securely fenced area, because prey drive and independence make recall unreliable.
