How much exercise does a Boston Terrier need?

Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Boston Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.

Around 40 to 60 minutes a day of walking and play suits most adults, broken into two or three outings. Bostons enjoy fetch, short bursts of chase, puzzle toys and learning tricks. Many surprise owners with their speed over short distances.

Heat is the real limit. On days above about 24°C (75°F), walk early in the morning or late in the evening, bring water, and keep sessions short. Loud rasping, a very wide tongue, reluctance to keep walking or lying down on cool ground are signs to stop at once and get into the shade. In winter, the short coat means many Bostons appreciate a jacket below freezing.
