Sloughi feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Sloughi.
A healthy Sloughi looks lean, and that is how it should stay. Adults usually need 250 to 330 g of a typical dry food a day, roughly 2.5 to 3.25 cups, split into two meals, and a fit dog shows the outline of the last two or three ribs and the hip bones. Owners of other breeds sometimes think this looks too thin, but covering those outlines with fat puts unnecessary strain on the joints.
Many Sloughis are selective eaters, and some go off their food when stressed or in hot weather. Keep set meal times, remove uneaten food after 20 minutes, and avoid frequent food changes. A raised bowl can make eating more comfortable for a tall, narrow dog, but evidence on raised bowls and bloat is mixed, so ask your vet what suits yours. Allow an hour of rest after meals before any sprinting.
