Training a Sloughi: what works and what to expect

Sloughis are intelligent but independent and sensitive. They learn best with gentle, reward-based training in short sessions and rarely respond well to repetition or raised voices. Many show little interest in formal obedience yet readily learn whatever they judge useful. Patience and trust matter far more than firmness.

Socialization should start early and continue for life, built on calm, positive experiences with strangers, other dogs and new places. Recall is the hardest skill; practice it in enclosed spaces and use a long line elsewhere. Many owners simply never let their Sloughi off-lead in unfenced areas.
