Keep puppies lean, because extra weight on a heavy-boned youngster strains hips, elbows and knee ligaments. Avoid repeated high jumps, flirt pole sessions with sharp turns and long runs until about 15 months. Adolescence, from roughly 7 to 18 months, is also when attitudes toward other dogs can shift, so keep social experiences calm and controlled rather than chaotic.
