Standard Poodle puppies grow quickly for the first six months, typically reaching about two thirds of their adult weight by then, and most hit full height at around 12 to 15 months. Filling out through the chest takes longer, and many do not look properly adult until closer to two years. Keep them lean through this phase: a visible waist and ribs you can feel easily protect growing joints far better than a chubby puppy look.
Somewhere between 9 and 18 months the soft puppy coat changes to the denser adult coat, and mats can appear almost overnight, especially behind the ears and under the collar. The same stretch brings adolescent confidence, so a reliable recall may seem to vanish for a few weeks. Hold off on repetitive high-impact exercise such as long runs on pavement or constant jumping until your vet confirms growth plates have closed.
