How much exercise does a Standard Poodle need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Standard Poodle enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Around 60 to 90 minutes a day suits most adults, ideally split between a proper walk and something that asks the brain to work. This is a retriever at heart, so a lake, a thrown training dummy or a game of find-it in long grass often satisfies a Standard more than another lap around the block. The breed does well in obedience, rally, agility, tracking and dock diving, and many enjoy canicross once fully grown.
Too little activity usually shows up as nuisance barking, chewing and a dog that shadows you from room to room demanding something to do. Too much is less common but happens with keen young dogs: stiffness the morning after a long outing, lagging behind on walks or sore pads after running on hard ground are all cues to scale back, and to see a vet if they do not settle within a few days.
