How much exercise does a Treeing Walker Coonhound need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Treeing Walker Coonhound enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Plan for 90 minutes or more of vigorous exercise a day. Running, hiking, canicross, scent trailing and, of course, hunting or organized coonhound events all suit the breed. Walkers love following a trail, so drag trails and tracking games are excellent ways to tire the brain as well as the legs.
Use a long line or a securely fenced area, because recall around fresh scent is unreliable in most hounds. An under-exercised Walker bays, digs, escapes or chews. Overdoing it shows up as sore pads, stiffness or exhaustion, so build distance gradually, especially on hard surfaces.
