Weimaraner grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Weimaraner: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Grooming is the easy part. A rubber curry mitt once a week lifts dead hair, and a wipe with a damp chamois brings back the metallic sheen. Shedding is light to moderate, although the short, fine hairs weave stubbornly into fabric. Longhaired dogs need brushing two or three times a week, paying attention to the feathering on ears and legs.
Nails grow quickly and many Weims dislike having their feet touched, so start handling paws in puppyhood and trim every 2 to 3 weeks. Check and gently wipe the long ears weekly. A fitted coat for cold, wet walks is not vanity for this breed: with very little undercoat, a Weim chills quickly once it stops moving.
