Weimaraner puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates

Puppies arrive with pale stripes and vivid blue eyes; the stripes fade within days, while the eyes change color gradually over several months. Growth is quick, with most pups weighing around 15 to 22 kg (33 to 48 lb) by 5 months and reaching near adult height at a year. Muscle and chest keep developing until about 2 years.
The breed has a known tendency toward hypertrophic osteodystrophy, a painful bone condition that usually appears between 2 and 6 months of age, often alongside a fever. Feed a large-breed puppy food, keep your pup lean and avoid long runs until about 12 to 18 months. If a young Weim suddenly goes lame on several legs, has warm, swollen joints or stops eating, contact your vet the same day.
