Whippet grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Whippet: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Few coats are easier. A quick rub with a rubber mitt or grooming glove once a week removes loose hairs, shedding is light, and most owners notice that their Whippet barely smells even when wet.
Baths are rarely needed, perhaps every two or three months. Nails matter more, because long nails affect the feet of a running dog, so trim or grind them every two weeks. Teeth need attention too, since the breed can build tartar; daily brushing is ideal. Check the skin after runs through undergrowth, and have any tear longer than about 1 cm looked at by a vet, as thin skin often needs stitching.
