Yorkshire Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Yorkshire Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
You have two routes: a floor-length show coat or a short pet trim. A long coat needs daily brushing with a pin brush and a fine comb, plus a bath every week or two, and many owners wrap it in paper or silk to protect it. A short puppy cut every six to eight weeks at a groomer brings brushing down to two or three times a week.
Hair grows inside the ear canal and around the eyes, so keep the fringe trimmed or tied up and ask the groomer to tidy the ears. Nails need cutting roughly every three weeks. Teeth deserve daily brushing: small jaws crowd the teeth together, and tartar builds faster than it does in larger dogs.
