Coat care takes minutes. A soft brush or rubber mitt once a week removes loose hair, and a bath every two or three months keeps the coat clean. Shedding is light but year round, and the fine white hairs show on dark clothing.
Nails are the bigger job. Small dogs rarely wear them down, so trim every 2 to 3 weeks and listen for clicking on hard floors as a reminder. Check the upright ears weekly, and brush teeth several times a week, since dental disease is one of the most common problems in toy breeds.
