Airedale Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Airedale Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The Airedale sheds very little when the coat is managed, but the wiry hair keeps growing and the dead hair has to come out. Hand-stripping every three to four months keeps the correct harsh texture and rich color. Many pet owners choose clipping instead, which is quicker but gradually softens the coat and fades the tan. Between sessions, brush two or three times a week with a slicker and a metal comb, especially the leg furnishings and beard.
Check ears weekly, and remove excess hair from the canal only if your groomer or vet advises it. Trim nails every few weeks and keep the hair between the pads short so the dog grips on hard floors. The beard needs a daily wipe or quick rinse, and some owners keep it shorter for easier care.
