How much exercise does an American Cocker Spaniel need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an American Cocker Spaniel enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
About 45 to 60 minutes a day suits most adults, split into two walks with some off-lead sniffing or play. Cockers enjoy retrieve games, scent work, agility and gentle hikes, and they adapt well to town life as long as the routine has some variety.
Mud, burrs and brambles are the trade-off: one woodland walk can mean 20 minutes of combing out debris afterwards, which is why many owners keep the leg and belly hair shorter. An under-exercised Cocker may bark, beg or become clingy, while one pushed too hard, particularly in heat, lags behind and pants heavily.
