How much exercise does a Pharaoh Hound need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Pharaoh Hound enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
An adult needs 60 to 90 minutes a day, including a few chances each week to sprint in a secure space. Lure coursing, racing, agility and long country walks all suit the breed. Pharaoh Hounds are superb jumpers, so garden fences should be at least 1.8 m (6 ft) high, and lower barriers may be cleared from a standing start.
In open country keep your hound on a lead or long line, because prey drive can override training in a split second. Give it a coat for cold walks, since there is almost no insulation under that glossy hair. A hound that is not getting enough exercise usually shows it through destructive chewing, restlessness and bouts of howling.
