How much exercise does an English Cocker Spaniel need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an English Cocker Spaniel enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
A show-line adult is usually content with 60 to 80 minutes a day, ideally including some off-lead time where it can quarter back and forth through long grass. Working-line dogs need 90 minutes or more plus a job: retrieving, scent games, gundog training or hunting for hidden toys. Mental work counts double. Ten minutes spent searching for a hidden canvas dummy tires a Cocker more than an extra kilometer of pavement.
Under-exercised Cockers get noisy, chew, steal things and circle the house looking for trouble. If yours limps, is stiff after rest or hesitates to jump into the car after a long day, you are probably overdoing it; build distance gradually and plan rest days after big hikes or shooting days.
