The coat is about as simple as it gets. Go over it once a week with a rubber mitt or soft bristle brush, a little more often during the light spring shed. Bathe every 2 to 3 months with a gentle dog shampoo, or follow your vet's routine if your dog has sensitive skin.
Use grooming time to check the skin, since this breed is prone to allergies and lumps. Look between the toes, in the armpits and on the belly. Trim nails every 2 to 3 weeks; AmStaffs often have strong feelings about nail trims, so pair them with treats from puppyhood. White and pale dogs burn easily, so limit time in strong midday sun.
