Springer puppies gain weight steadily, typically reaching 6 to 8 kg by 12 weeks and about half their adult weight around five months. Adult height usually arrives near 12 months, while the chest and muscle keep developing until 15 to 18 months. Working-bred youngsters can look leggy and narrow until then, which is normal.
The main risk during growth is doing too much. A young Springer will happily run until it drops, so build structured exercise gradually and keep most of it as free play on soft ground. Leave long runs, repeated jumping and intense retrieving drills until growth plates close at around 12 to 14 months, and ask your vet if you notice limping that lasts more than a day.
