Puppies grow steadily and reach adult height by about 12 months, but they keep filling out in the chest and head until roughly 18 to 24 months. Coat color also changes: puppies are born white, then darken to blue or red speckling, with the final pattern clear by around 6 months.
Growing Cattle Dogs have huge enthusiasm and little self-control, so keep hard, repetitive exercise such as long runs or frequent jumping to a minimum until growth plates close, usually around 12 to 14 months. Instead, focus on free play, short walks, basic training and socialization. Ask your vet about any lameness that lasts more than a day or two.
