Australian Terrier puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates

How fast an Australian Terrier puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.

Puppies usually weigh around 1.5 to 2 kg (3 to 4.5 lb) at 8 weeks and reach adult height by 8 to 10 months, filling out fully by about a year. Coat color changes are part of growing up: blue and tan pups start off black and tan, and the true blue can take 18 months or more to appear, while sand and red pups often darken or clear over time.

Feed a small-breed puppy food three or four times a day at first, dropping to two meals by around 6 months. Keep jumping on and off furniture limited while joints are developing, and check that your puppy moves freely. A pup that holds up a back leg, skips a step or seems painful around the hips should be seen by a vet, since knee and hip conditions can appear during growth.
