How fast a Jack Russell Terrier puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Growth is fast and fairly uncomplicated compared with bigger breeds. Most pups weigh around 2 kg (4.4 lb) at 8 weeks, reach adult height by 8 to 10 months and are fully mature at about a year. Feed a small-breed puppy food three times a day until around 6 months, then move to two meals.
The thing to watch in a growing terrier is often behavior rather than bones. Adolescence, roughly 6 to 14 months, brings testing, digging and sudden deafness to your voice. Physically, check that your puppy moves soundly; a young dog that holds up a hind leg, skips a step or has a limp lasting more than a couple of days should see a vet, as some knee and hip conditions first appear at this age.
