Training a Borzoi: what works and what to expect

Expect a thinker rather than a pleaser. Borzois were bred to make split-second decisions far from the hunter, and they rarely show enthusiasm for repetitive obedience. Short, gentle sessions with good treats and plenty of patience work best, and harsh methods can make them shut down entirely.

Recall will never be fully reliable around moving prey. Focus instead on practical skills: walking nicely on lead, settling on a bed, polite greetings and calm handling for grooming and vet visits. Many Borzois are sensitive, so keep your tone quiet and your expectations realistic.
