How much exercise does a Brittany need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Brittany enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Plan for at least 90 minutes of real activity a day, and more for young adults. That means running, not strolling: off-lead time in safe open spaces, retrieving, canicross, or structured field training. Brittanys also shine at agility, where their speed and willingness make them natural competitors, and many take to scent work with little encouragement.
An under-exercised Brittany paces, whines, digs and invents its own entertainment, usually at your expense. Overdoing it is less common, but it happens in heat or with young dogs pushed too far. Heavy panting that does not settle after a few minutes of rest, very red gums, stumbling, or lying down and refusing to continue all mean stop, cool the dog and call a vet if it does not recover quickly. Build fitness gradually, and in summer work at dawn or dusk.
