How much exercise does a Welsh Springer Spaniel need?

Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Welsh Springer Spaniel enjoys and signs of too much or too little.

Adults need 60 to 90 minutes of exercise a day, including time off lead in safe areas where they can run and hunt with their noses. Retrieving games, gundog training, scent work, swimming and long hikes are all ideal. Their stamina is remarkable, and a fit Welshie can work cover all day.

Without enough exercise, Welsh Springers become restless, whiny or destructive. Recall must be solid before off-lead walks near game or livestock, because a strong scent can take over. In young dogs, too much exercise shows up as stiffness and reluctance to get up after a rest.
