Brussels Griffon grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Brussels Griffon: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Rough coats need brushing two or three times a week with a slicker brush and a metal comb, paying attention to the beard and legs. To keep the correct wiry texture, the coat is hand-stripped, which means plucking loose dead hair, two to three times a year, often by a groomer who knows the technique. Many pet owners choose clipping instead, which is easier but softens the coat and dulls the color.
Smooth-coated Griffons need only a weekly rub with a grooming mitt, though they shed more than rough dogs. For both types, check the eyes daily for debris, clean the beard or face fold, trim nails every three weeks, and brush the teeth several times a week, since crowded toy-breed mouths collect tartar quickly.
