The long, silky coat needs daily brushing if kept at full length, using a pin brush and a fine-toothed comb. Many pet owners keep a shorter puppy trim for easier care. Bathe every one to two weeks for long coats, and dry thoroughly. The long facial hair is often tied up in a topknot, which keeps it out of the eyes.
