Training a Brussels Griffon: what works and what to expect

Griffons are clever and quick to link actions with results, which cuts both ways. They learn tricks eagerly for small food rewards and praise, but they also learn that barking gets attention. Keep training short, cheerful and consistent, and ignore demands you do not want repeated.

House training is often slow, as with many toy breeds. A regular schedule, a crate or pen for short periods, and immediate rewards outdoors help a lot. Build alone time gradually from the first week, starting with a few minutes behind a baby gate, so the dog learns that you always come back. Early, gentle meetings with calm children and visitors help prevent nervous snapping later.
