Finnish Spitz feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Finnish Spitz.
Adults typically weigh 9 to 15 kg (20 to 33 lb) and eat about 150 to 220 g of a typical dry food a day, roughly 1.5 to 2.25 cups. Finnish Spitz are known for being fussy rather than greedy, and some leave food in the bowl if they are not hungry. Picking the bowl up after 15 to 20 minutes and offering it again at the next meal usually works better than adding toppings to tempt them.
A dog working in the snow needs noticeably more food than a house pet in summer, so adjust portions by season and activity. Feeding twice a day at consistent times suits most. The thick coat hides weight gain, so check condition with your hands on the ribs and waist rather than trusting your eyes.
