Training an Italian Greyhound: what works and what to expect

IGs respond to soft voices, patience and small tasty rewards. They shut down quickly if scolded, and a sulking IG simply leaves the room. Short sessions of trick training, such as spin, touch and go to bed, build confidence and focus.

House training is the big hurdle, and many owners find it takes six months or longer. IGs hate going out in rain or cold, so a covered area outside, a coat, and taking them out with you rather than just opening the door all help. Reward outdoor toileting generously and avoid punishing mistakes. Some owners keep an indoor toilet option for bad weather.
