How much exercise does a Jack Russell Terrier need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Jack Russell Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Plan for about 60 minutes of real activity a day, and keep it varied. Jack Russells are built for bursts of speed and problem solving, so flirt pole play, ball games, sniffing walks, agility and scent work suit them far better than a slow stroll. Ten minutes of trick training counts for more than it looks, since mental effort tires a terrier quickly.
A bored Jack Russell does not lie quietly in its bed. Holes in the lawn, chewed door frames, barking at every leaf and escape attempts are the usual signals. Over-exercise is less common in adults, but hours of repetitive ball chasing can wind some dogs up and strain joints; mix fetch with calmer tasks like searching for scattered food in the grass.
