Lakeland puppies reach adult height by about 8 to 10 months and final weight by around a year. The puppy coat is soft and fluffy, and the harsher adult coat starts to come through between 6 and 12 months. Many breeders recommend introducing gentle stripping early so the puppy learns to accept it calmly.
Growth is usually trouble-free, but keep an eye on hips and eyes. Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, a hip problem seen in some small breeds, tends to show up between about 4 and 12 months. A puppy that limps on a back leg, especially if it gets worse over several weeks, should see a vet, and eyes that look cloudy or suddenly painful also need prompt attention.
