Norwich Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Norwich Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The wiry coat is best kept by hand-stripping, pulling out the dead outer hairs with your fingers or a stripping knife, usually twice a year. This keeps the coat harsh, weatherproof and bright in color. Clipping is quicker but softens the texture and can dull the color over time, though many pet owners choose it for convenience.
Between strips, brush once or twice a week with a slicker brush and a comb. Bathe only when necessary, since frequent washing softens the coat. Trim nails every two to three weeks, check the ears weekly and brush teeth several times a week, because small dogs are prone to dental problems.
