Plott Hound health: what owners should know

Working hounds tend to be robust, and the Plott is no exception. It is known to be prone to bloat, hip dysplasia and ear infections linked to the ear shape. Responsible breeders hip score their dogs and select for sound structure and working ability.

Keep your Plott lean and fit, clean the ears regularly and follow sensible feeding routines around exercise. See a vet if your dog shakes its head often, has a smelly or red ear, seems stiff or reluctant to jump, or shows any of the bloat signs described above.
