How much exercise does a Plott Hound need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Plott Hound enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
This is a high-drive athlete. Plan on at least 90 minutes of exercise a day for an adult, and more for young dogs. Long hikes, trail running once mature, mantrailing, scent sports and coonhound events all channel the breed's instincts. A short walk around the block will leave a Plott restless and noisy.
Scent work tires a Plott much faster than running alone, so include nose games every day. Keep the dog on a lead or long line in unfenced areas; once it picks up a trail, it may follow it for miles. Chewing, digging and howling in the garden are the classic signs that a Plott is not getting enough to do.
