How much exercise does a Portuguese Podengo need?

Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Portuguese Podengo enjoys and signs of too much or too little.

Pequenos need about 45 to 60 minutes of daily activity, Médios and Grandes 60 to 90 minutes. Beyond walks, Podengos love lure coursing, agility, scent work, barn hunt and hiking over varied ground. They are fast and nimble, and a secure fenced field for sprints gives them enormous satisfaction.

Their hunting drive makes recall unreliable around rabbits, cats and birds, so use a long line in open areas. Yards need secure fencing at least 1.5 m (5 ft) high for Médios and Grandes, with no gaps underneath, because Podengos climb and dig. Under-exercised dogs bark, dig and invent their own entertainment, while over-exercised youngsters may be sore or lame the next day.
