How much exercise does a Silky Terrier need?

Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Silky Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.

Around 45 minutes a day of walking and play keeps most adults fit. Silkies enjoy exploring, sniffing and chasing toys, and many do well at agility, earthdog or barn hunt, sports that let them follow their terrier instincts. Short games of fetch in a hallway or a hide-and-seek session with treats count toward the total on rainy days.

A Silky that misses its daily outing tends to bark, dig and fidget. Use a harness rather than a collar, because small dogs can be prone to tracheal problems. Silkies are not built for cold, and a light coat helps on chilly walks. Signs your dog has had enough include slowing down, sitting on the path or seeking to be picked up.
