How much exercise does a Smooth Fox Terrier need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Smooth Fox Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Aim for about 60 minutes of activity a day, with at least part of it off lead in a secure area or in structured play. Smooths enjoy ball games, flirt poles, agility, earthdog trials and long walks full of sniffing. They are sprinters at heart, and ten minutes of hard running tires them more than a slow hour on lead.
Bored Smooths dig, bark and escape, sometimes over fences that look far too high for a dog their size. Regular fence checks, supervision outdoors and a sandpit where digging is allowed can save your flower beds. Signs of overdoing it, such as limping or lagging, are rare, but check pads after rough or frozen ground.
