Wirehaired Vizsla grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Wirehaired Vizsla: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The wiry coat is low maintenance compared with many breeds. Brush once a week with a firm bristle brush or a hound glove to lift dead hair and debris. Shedding is light, though some dogs drop more undercoat in spring and autumn. Hand-stripping a few times a year keeps the coat harsh and neat, which matters most for dogs shown or worked in thick cover.
After hunting or country walks, check the coat and ears for burrs, seeds and ticks, and look between the toes. Bathe only when needed, as frequent washing softens the coat. Wipe the beard daily, trim nails every few weeks, and keep the hanging ears clean and dry, especially after swimming.
