Training a Wirehaired Vizsla: what works and what to expect

These dogs want to please but are sensitive, so gentle, reward-based training works far better than harsh correction. They learn quickly, enjoy working with people, and often shine in obedience and field work. Short, varied sessions keep their attention.

The main challenges are recall around wildlife, pulling on the lead, and coping with being alone. Build recall with high-value rewards and a long line before trusting off-lead freedom. Teach calm settling indoors, and build alone time gradually from puppyhood so the dog learns that being left is safe. Early exposure to different people, dogs and places produces a confident adult.
