How much exercise does a Large Munsterlander need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Large Munsterlander enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Most adults need at least two hours of activity daily, including some off-lead running in a safe place. Pure mileage is not enough; this breed needs to use its nose and its retrieving instinct. Dummy work, tracking, swimming retrieves and search games satisfy it far better than jogging on pavements. Canicross and hiking suit it once fully grown.
Signs of too little exercise include pacing, whining, digging and hunting birds in the garden with total obsession. Watch for the opposite in working dogs: sore pads, cut feet, stiffness the next morning or reluctance to go out. On hot days, schedule rest, because a Munsterlander focused on birds rarely chooses to stop on its own.
